A DC drive is a converter that supplies and regulates armature and field current for a DC motor. Unlike an AC variable frequency drive, which synthesizes a variable-frequency AC waveform, a DC drive rectifies the incoming AC supply and controls the DC output directly. DC drives remain in service on legacy process lines, extruders, winders and machine tools.
