In short
Why MicroLogix is end-of-life, and how to migrate code, I/O, and HMIs to current platforms.
MicroLogix end-of-life
Rockwell has placed every MicroLogix CPU (1000/1100/1200/1400/1500) into silver-series / end-of-life status. Spares are still available but new design is discouraged.
Two clean migration paths
- Micro800 family — best for OEM machines and small standalone control. Programmed in Connected Components Workbench, free.
- CompactLogix 5380 (5069-L3x) — best for plant-floor cells, networked production, and anything that needs EtherNet/IP CIP Motion or large tag-based programming.
Practical conversion notes
- Convert RSLogix 500 ladder by hand — there is no automatic tool to Logix Designer.
- Use Rockwell's MicroLogix Migration Toolkit to scope I/O.
- Replace 1761-CBL serial cables with USB or Ethernet.
- Keep PanelView 800/Plus 7 HMIs — they work with both targets.
We stock new and refurbished spares to keep your MicroLogix lines running while you plan the migration.
